Danielle,
I’m no longer running for president of the United States.
But our grassroots movement was never just about winning one election.
In California and across the country, people have come together to fight side by side for big, structural change — not for me, but for each other. That fight goes on, Danielle.
So we’re announcing Warren Democrats to power that fight.
Warren Democrats is a movement for everybody who believes in the power of bold, inclusive reform to root out corruption in government and put power in the hands of the people.
Right now, that means working to ensure we put people first in solving the coronavirus outbreak and the economic crisis in the short term — and rebuilding our economy in the long term.
This movement will not only support my re-election campaign for Senate, but will also support other Democratic candidates who share our vision, mobilize people to support those candidates and our ideas, and continue to build the grassroots movement that you’ve started.
This year, we’ll be working to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot. Yes, we need to win the White House, and we need to keep the House, take back the Senate, and win a whole bunch of state legislative races.
But we can’t wait until November to begin delivering solutions for people who are hurting right now.
As we’ve already seen, this crisis has put a spotlight on a number of existing structural issues: how our federal government operates and who it works for, the fragility of an economy that is skewed against working people, and the importance of universal health care and paid leave not just in times of crisis, but in our everyday lives.
The solutions we advocate for now can and should have a lasting impact on our economy and our government. America can come out of this crisis stronger than before — but only if we rally around bold solutions, rather than temporary fixes and short-term deals.
So when a greedy corporation is trying to rig the system and cheat working people, we’ll speak out.
When Democrats are running on strong progressive values, we’ll shine a spotlight on them.
And whenever the door is open — even just a crack — for real, systematic reform — we’ll shove our shoulders into that door, push it open all the way, and give the fight everything we’ve got.
But understand this, Danielle: Because we’re fighting to put power in the hands of the people, we’ll still have plenty of people standing in our way. Big banks and powerful special interests don’t want you and me to stay in the fight. They want us to lick our wounds, hide in a corner, whimper, and whine.
I’m not going to give them the satisfaction. I’m going to keep fighting back — and I hope you will, too.
I’m deeply grateful for the chance to keep up the fight alongside you and families across the country as the senior senator from Massachusetts. And I know we have the opportunity to keep pushing for the big, structural change our government, economy, and democracy still sorely need.
