Winning majorities is not enough

Danielle,

I've got a whole bunch of plans for what we can accomplish with a Democratic House, a Democratic Senate, and a Democratic White House in 2025. Plans like making Supreme Court justices follow a basic code of ethics, taxing wealthy billionaires, and abolishing the filibuster to pass abortion rights and gun safety laws.

So I'll fight my heart out to support Democrats up and down the ticket in 2024.

But I'm not willing to wait until we have a different Congress to pass important bills and get things done for the American people.

And even with Republicans controlling the House, there are still some places where the door is open to making real change. So I've been doing everything I can to get things done. I've teamed up with Republican colleagues in the Senate on reining in Big Tech. And on clawing back bonuses from executives who ran their big banks into the ground. I'm also working with the Biden-Harris administration to keep delivering student debt relief. To keep cracking down on junk fees. To bring home our fight to ban noncompete agreements and secure stronger overtime pay. To keep putting more money and power in the hands of working people.

I refuse to throw my hands up and wait until January 2025 to try to make progress. We must keep fighting with what we have — and I'm running for re-election to keep making progress in 2024, 2025, and beyond. Will you chip in $100 or anything you can to make sure I can continue this work in the Senate?

We need to defend and expand our Senate majority, retake the House, and re-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2024 — because everything we're fighting for would be a whole lot easier if we had more champions for working people in office. And if the GOP gains any more power in November, they'll work to pass their extremist agenda and actively reverse all the progress we've made together.

Democrats win when we go out there and fight for the bold action that families need. But winning majorities is not enough. We need to use those majorities to pass plans that truly transform the lives of working people in this country.

So I'm fighting my heart out to get as much done as possible with the Congress we have now. And I'm working to elect more Democrats up and down the ballot so we can expand our majorities, end the filibuster, and get more on the table and passed.

And I won't be doing it alone. I'll be fighting alongside a grassroots movement — this grassroots movement. I'm deeply grateful for your support in this fight — and powering our campaign from the grassroots level makes an important difference.

So if you're able to, will you pitch in $100 or whatever makes sense to support my re-election so we can continue making progress for working people? I would be incredibly grateful.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth

A few big labor wins for workers to celebrate

Together, we can make sure that hard work turns into fair pay and a fair opportunity for a decent life.

Danielle,

Today is May Day, also known as International Workers' Day — a chance to recognize the long history of working people joining together to fight for real change.

And this year, we have some big recent wins to celebrate from the Biden-Harris administration, on top of huge advances in union organizing. Victories that came after years and years of organizing, advocacy, and plain-old persistence.

Just last week, the Federal Trade Commission voted to ban the vast majority of "noncompete agreements," which bar employees from switching to different jobs that could offer better pay, or better benefits, or better working conditions. Or from starting new businesses that could compete with their employers.

You don't need to be an economic expert to see how noncompete clauses end up driving down wages. But experts back this up, of course. After this ban, Massachusetts workers stand to gain $2 billion in higher pay. It'll also lead to lower health care costs, more startups, and more patents. And our economy as a whole will be more competitive, with more entrepreneurs being able to turn big ideas into new companies.

I've been pushing for this reform, and because of this change, working people will have more freedom, more power, and more money in their pockets.

Also last week, the Department of Labor announced a big raise for over 4 million working people.

I've fought to make sure workers don't get locked out of earning overtime pay, and a new policy will extend overtime pay protections to salaried Americans making up to $58,656 — up from just $35,568 under Donald Trump. For millions more people now, working over 40 hours a week will mean earning overtime pay, guaranteed.

Once again, the Biden-Harris administration is putting more money in people's pockets.

And workers continue to come together in a historic wave of union organizing, lifting each other up and winning higher wages and new protections. Just a couple weeks ago, Volkswagen workers in Tennessee with the UAW broke new ground for the South by winning their union.

The power of labor unions is growing, and the American labor movement is stronger than ever. Nurses, autoworkers, public school teachers, writers, actors, and more are all recognizing their strength when they come together. All staying united on picket lines. All making change, not just for themselves, but for working people across America.

Workers have always had to fight for a level playing field, from a minimum wage to basic workplace safety to a 40-hour work week. And when workers fight, workers win.

I'll keep pushing to make it easier to organize a union with policies like the PRO Act, put more money and power in the hands of working people, and build an economy that doesn't just work for billionaire CEOs.

Together, we can make sure that hard work turns into fair pay and a fair opportunity for a decent life.

Thanks for being a part of this, and happy International Workers' Day,

Elizabeth

What your contribution means today

Can you pitch in any amount before midnight?

Danielle,

Tonight's an important end-of-month grassroots fundraising deadline for our re-election campaign, so let me be direct with you: I'm about to ask if you can pitch in a donation of $100 or any amount.

We've got to hit all our fundraising goals this year, including April's — and we just got another reminder of why that's the case.

A new right-wing Super PAC just launched to target me and boost one of my GOP opponents. It's got ties to the Trump administration and powerful corporate interests — from Big Oil to Big Pharma to the big banks. And we can't take it lightly.

Will you chip in any amount before midnight to help make sure we can fight back and win re-election this year?

If you've saved payment info with ActBlue Express, your donation will process automatically:

That same GOP challenger just recently announced that he'd invested $1 million of his own money into his campaign. And another Republican candidate jumped into the race this month.

So as we close out April and plan our outreach and organizing through November, we've got to keep our grassroots fundraising going strong.

Together, we can show the depth and breadth of support for making Washington work for working families, not just the rich and powerful.

We can show how many people are linking arms to fight for plans like universal child care, affordable housing, a national law ensuring reproductive freedom, and a wealth tax to fund opportunity for all of our kids.

And we can win up and down the ticket — keeping Donald Trump out of office, and also defeating MAGA Republicans running on Trump policies. As they work hard to advance their out-of-touch agenda, rip away women's bodily autonomy, and make it harder for working people to get ahead, we have to push back even harder.

Danielle, I'll keep up the fight for American families. But I can't do it alone. So I have to ask again ahead of tonight's fundraising deadline:

Can you make a donation of whatever makes sense right now to support our re-election campaign and grow our movement?

Thanks for being part of this,

Elizabeth

Price gouging is served

This is absurd.
͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌

Danielle, you know when you're ordering dinner on DoorDash or UberEats, where you see the total price as you add food to your cart, but when it's time to check out, the total is three times more?

This is intentional, Danielle. These companies are taking advantage of customers — tacking on confusing and inexplicable "service" and "delivery" and "regulatory" fees at the very end of the checkout process, when your order is so close you can taste it. And that doesn't include tax or tip yet. All together, totals can come out to be more than double of what the actual order is.

This is a matter of big corporations gaining too much power in their industry and taking advantage of American families and workers — all in order to line their CEOs' pockets with millions. On top of price gouging consumers, food delivery companies have also historically underpaid delivery drivers and pocketed a major cut on commissions from restaurants.

So Senators Bob Casey, Ben Ray Luján, and I just sent a letter to DoorDash and UberEats to call out their use of hidden junk fees to take advantage of American consumers trying to put food on the table while balancing busy schedules. They need to be transparent in their business practices and show us where these mysterious service and delivery fees go.

I'm pushing to prevent these companies from taking advantage of customers while lining the pockets of their CEOs. Add your name if you believe companies like DoorDash and UberEats should be held accountable for overcharging customers looking to put food on the table, underpaying drivers trying to make a living, and bullying small businesses with commission rates.

ADD YOUR NAME

One would hope that these companies would at least reinvest their revenue in delivery workers' compensation or cutting down frivolous fees for consumers. But we can't bank on just hope, Danielle. Here's where we can see that money is actually going:

  • In February of this year, DoorDash announced a $1.1 billion round of stock buybacks.
  • In March of this year, UberEats initiated a $7 billion stock buyback.
  • In 2020, DoorDash went public and had the highest-paid CEO in Silicon Valley, with a total compensation of nearly $413 million.
  • Last year, Uber paid its CEO more than $24 million.

And it's not just consumers who are fronting the bill for these excessive salaries and stock buybacks.

According to Vox, these companies continue to underpay delivery drivers — without whom there wouldn't be a business. In fact, about half the amount they make on each trip comes from tips. In certain cities like New York and Seattle, where recent laws require delivery apps to pay drivers a minimum wage, an additional "regulatory fee" is added and passed right back to customers.

Small businesses are paying the price too. These companies take as much as 30% from each order that is placed through their service.

Danielle, this is what happens when big companies dominate a market and go unchecked — they're able to overcharge, provide lower-quality service, treat workers and small businesses poorly, while their CEOs and executives take home exorbitant amounts of money. It doesn't have to be this way.

So far, Senator Casey and I have reintroduced the Price Gouging Prevention Act, which would protect consumers and prohibit corporate price gouging. We have also introduced the Shrinkflation Prevention Act, which would crack down on corporations that deceive their customers by selling smaller sizes of their products without lowering the price.

I'm going to continue fighting these corporations with every tool available to make sure American consumers, workers, and small businesses aren't hurt and taken advantage of. Add your name if you agree that these fees have gotten out of hand and these companies must be held accountable.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth
