What your contribution means today

Can you pitch in any amount before midnight?

Danielle,

Tonight's an important end-of-month grassroots fundraising deadline for our re-election campaign, so let me be direct with you: I'm about to ask if you can pitch in a donation of $100 or any amount.

We've got to hit all our fundraising goals this year, including April's — and we just got another reminder of why that's the case.

A new right-wing Super PAC just launched to target me and boost one of my GOP opponents. It's got ties to the Trump administration and powerful corporate interests — from Big Oil to Big Pharma to the big banks. And we can't take it lightly.

Will you chip in any amount before midnight to help make sure we can fight back and win re-election this year?

If you've saved payment info with ActBlue Express, your donation will process automatically:

That same GOP challenger just recently announced that he'd invested $1 million of his own money into his campaign. And another Republican candidate jumped into the race this month.

So as we close out April and plan our outreach and organizing through November, we've got to keep our grassroots fundraising going strong.

Together, we can show the depth and breadth of support for making Washington work for working families, not just the rich and powerful.

We can show how many people are linking arms to fight for plans like universal child care, affordable housing, a national law ensuring reproductive freedom, and a wealth tax to fund opportunity for all of our kids.

And we can win up and down the ticket — keeping Donald Trump out of office, and also defeating MAGA Republicans running on Trump policies. As they work hard to advance their out-of-touch agenda, rip away women's bodily autonomy, and make it harder for working people to get ahead, we have to push back even harder.

Danielle, I'll keep up the fight for American families. But I can't do it alone. So I have to ask again ahead of tonight's fundraising deadline:

Can you make a donation of whatever makes sense right now to support our re-election campaign and grow our movement?

Thanks for being part of this,

Elizabeth

Price gouging is served

This is absurd.
͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌

Danielle, you know when you're ordering dinner on DoorDash or UberEats, where you see the total price as you add food to your cart, but when it's time to check out, the total is three times more?

This is intentional, Danielle. These companies are taking advantage of customers — tacking on confusing and inexplicable "service" and "delivery" and "regulatory" fees at the very end of the checkout process, when your order is so close you can taste it. And that doesn't include tax or tip yet. All together, totals can come out to be more than double of what the actual order is.

This is a matter of big corporations gaining too much power in their industry and taking advantage of American families and workers — all in order to line their CEOs' pockets with millions. On top of price gouging consumers, food delivery companies have also historically underpaid delivery drivers and pocketed a major cut on commissions from restaurants.

So Senators Bob Casey, Ben Ray Luján, and I just sent a letter to DoorDash and UberEats to call out their use of hidden junk fees to take advantage of American consumers trying to put food on the table while balancing busy schedules. They need to be transparent in their business practices and show us where these mysterious service and delivery fees go.

I'm pushing to prevent these companies from taking advantage of customers while lining the pockets of their CEOs. Add your name if you believe companies like DoorDash and UberEats should be held accountable for overcharging customers looking to put food on the table, underpaying drivers trying to make a living, and bullying small businesses with commission rates.

ADD YOUR NAME

One would hope that these companies would at least reinvest their revenue in delivery workers' compensation or cutting down frivolous fees for consumers. But we can't bank on just hope, Danielle. Here's where we can see that money is actually going:

  • In February of this year, DoorDash announced a $1.1 billion round of stock buybacks.
  • In March of this year, UberEats initiated a $7 billion stock buyback.
  • In 2020, DoorDash went public and had the highest-paid CEO in Silicon Valley, with a total compensation of nearly $413 million.
  • Last year, Uber paid its CEO more than $24 million.

And it's not just consumers who are fronting the bill for these excessive salaries and stock buybacks.

According to Vox, these companies continue to underpay delivery drivers — without whom there wouldn't be a business. In fact, about half the amount they make on each trip comes from tips. In certain cities like New York and Seattle, where recent laws require delivery apps to pay drivers a minimum wage, an additional "regulatory fee" is added and passed right back to customers.

Small businesses are paying the price too. These companies take as much as 30% from each order that is placed through their service.

Danielle, this is what happens when big companies dominate a market and go unchecked — they're able to overcharge, provide lower-quality service, treat workers and small businesses poorly, while their CEOs and executives take home exorbitant amounts of money. It doesn't have to be this way.

So far, Senator Casey and I have reintroduced the Price Gouging Prevention Act, which would protect consumers and prohibit corporate price gouging. We have also introduced the Shrinkflation Prevention Act, which would crack down on corporations that deceive their customers by selling smaller sizes of their products without lowering the price.

I'm going to continue fighting these corporations with every tool available to make sure American consumers, workers, and small businesses aren't hurt and taken advantage of. Add your name if you agree that these fees have gotten out of hand and these companies must be held accountable.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth

Danielle,

Usually, progress doesn't follow a straight line. It takes twists and turns. It comes with stops and starts. But if we keep at it, we can make real change.

And student debt cancellation is a prime example. Naysayers dismissed it as pie-in-the-sky. A far-right Supreme Court laid down giant roadblocks. But families are now getting relief, with more on the way.

It can be hard to keep track of all the latest developments, so here's a quick summary:

  • President Biden has now delivered $153 billion in student loan relief to 4.3 million borrowers, including nurses, teachers, and other public servants who've been paying down their debt for years and years already.
  • He's launched a new income-driven repayment plan with 8 million enrollees, where most borrowers pay $0 a month.
  • And he just announced new proposals that would bring the grand total of Americans receiving relief to 30 million.

Even though right-wing extremists on the Supreme Court substituted their own ideology for the rule of law and blocked the president's broad-based student debt cancellation plan, he's still finding ways to lift this crushing burden off people's shoulders.

And even though critics and cynics claimed that student debt relief was impossible when we first started talking about it, it's now making a real difference in millions of Americans' lives. With millions more to come.

Experts kept illuminating how student loan debt was holding people back from launching new businesses, becoming homeowners, and even starting a family.

Borrowers kept sharing their personal stories.

Activists and activists kept up the pressure on Washington.

I kept working alongside colleagues and organizers and this whole grassroots team.

Together, we took student debt cancellation from "impossible" to $153 billion of debt canceled — and counting.

We can keep following that same roadmap to make more change that reaches more families. Like ensuring universal child care. And tackling the housing affordability crisis. And making technical schools, community colleges, and public universities tuition-free.

It starts with growing our grassroots movement, person to person, one grassroots contribution at a time. Can you pitch in with a donation right now to keep up the fight for bold reforms that touch people's lives?

Danielle, CEO pay is out of control

We've got to tax the rich to increase opportunity for all, and it's time to put more money and power in the hands of working people.

Have you ever gotten a 26% raise, Danielle?

You'd think that such a hefty bump would come after a pretty impressive year.

But from 2022 to 2023 the CEO of Warner Bros. got a compensation increase of over 26% — to nearly $50 million, including bonuses and stock awards — despite a year that was rocky, to say the least. Despite layoffs. Despite box office bombs. Despite a lagging stock price.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. workers had to strike for higher pay.

CEO pay is out of control. Millionaires and billionaires are making out like bandits. So it's safe to say they can — and must — pay their fair share to keep our country running.

Add your name if you agree, Danielle: we've got to tax the rich to increase opportunity for all, and it's time to put more money and power in the hands of working people.

ADD YOUR NAME

There are plenty of ways we can get the rich and powerful to pay their fair share.

The IRS can keep up its new crackdown on wealthy tax cheats — a step I pushed for, and which Democrats funded as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

We can pass President Biden's plan for a minimum tax on billionaires, because Jeff Bezos shouldn't pay a lower tax rate than a public school teacher.

We can also enact his proposal to increase my minimum tax on massive corporate profits.

And we can put a two-cent wealth tax on net worths bigger than $50 million, with another penny per dollar for the billionaires.

From paid leave and child care to affordable housing, we can use new tax revenue to build a future for all of our kids.

If you think we need to build an economy that works not just for wealthy CEOs but all working people, add your name — and let's make it happen side by side.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth
