Today, Mars Retrograde squares Saturn

In a way, one of the more defining marks made upon 2020, the Mars/Saturn square occurs 2 days before the Full Moon does. Mars, now retrograding through Aries, will square Saturn, now in Capricorn and having just stationed direct, for the second and last time from their respective signs.

Squares cause friction and Mars makes strife so no one does a square like Mars. It is the planet's signature move. It's a conflict from out of nowhere and the discomfort that spurs us into action. The only problem is that when Mars makes a square to Saturn, it doesn't get to move fast, if at all.

Mars, and especially Mars in Aries, the sign it rules, is all about speed, reactivity, and risk. It's edgy, and impulsive, pushy and inflaming. Saturn, and especially Saturn in Capricorn, the sign it rules, is constrained, reserved, cautious, and contracting. Both are incredibly ambitious, driven, and strategic but through completely different modes, making their collision that much more poignant.

The Mars/Saturn square resounds throughout the rest of 2020 and demands that we examine our burdens in greater detail; it asks us to feel their weight without shifting ours, to study our discomfort in all its intricacies. But suffering isn't the aim; if we are to ever overcome what impedes us and justice, we have to become intimately aware of our opponents.

During this past month, if you have been under an avalanche of work, up against odds you hadn't planned on, or faced with internal struggles that threatened to drag you under, this astrology probably landed in extra sensitive areas of your chart. If you have any planets or points close to 25° of Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn, this time period will be especially testy. Whatever the specifics, we've all been asked to apply every ounce of our resources to the issues at hand.
