Pulling every lever

This is not the only part of my plan to fight back, but it's a powerful step.

Danielle, Things are overwhelming right now, so I want to be very clear about concrete action we can take to fight for abortion rights — and I want to be precise about how those next steps fit into our larger plan. Pure and simple, we don't have the votes in the Senate right now to codify Roe v. Wade's protections into federal law. To be exact, we are two votes short. But we can change that in November. To be clear: Growing our Senate majority is not the only part of my plan to fight back, but it's a powerfully important step to take, because losing our majority would be disastrous, and we can't just preserve the current Senate stalemate on Roe's protections. In Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — two states that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won in 2020 — Mandela Barnes and John Fetterman are running to flip Republican-held Senate seats. Mandela and John both support ending the filibuster to pass legislation that would ensure abortion rights nationwide. If we expand our Democratic majority by two votes, and if we hold onto the House, we can make Roe the law of the land as soon as January. That's well worth fighting for.
