President Biden's executive order

Danielle,

You might have missed some big news out of Washington last week — on how we can take power away from giant corporations and put it in the hands of the people, where it belongs.

But you helped make it possible. Here's just a little bit of background:

For decades now, multinational corporations and big businesses have been gobbling up more control of our economy. They've squeezed out competitors. They've hoarded more money and power.

And it's had real consequences for our economy. Less innovation. Higher prices for consumers. Lower wages for workers. Big banks exploiting our personal financial data. Agribusiness giants crushing our farmers. Pharmaceutical companies cheating the patent system to keep drug prices high.

But this wasn't inevitable. It didn't happen because of some natural force, like gravity. It happened because of decades of bad decisions in Washington, tilted to benefit those giant corporations while consumers, workers, and family-owned businesses struggled to stay afloat.

For years, I've called for tougher antitrust enforcement and to break up some of the worst offenders — because I believe in competitive markets, and markets without rules are theft.

When I ran for president, we put the issue of corporate monopolies front and center. We kept pushing. With your support, we kept these ideas in the conversation. And after the primary, we worked our hearts out to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because they would fight for a government that works for everyone, not just the rich and powerful.

That brings us to last Friday. President Biden signed an executive order that takes critical steps to strengthen antitrust enforcement, protect consumers and workers, and tackle consolidation and anticompetitive practices.

Taking on giant corporations always means going out on a limb — so I think we should show him that we have his back on this.

Sign on here to thank President Biden for taking a strong stand to increase competition in our economy so small businesses, workers, and consumers can have a fighting chance — not just the big guys.

And thank YOU, Danielle, for being a part of this fight. Thank you for laying the groundwork for this big, structural change.

Of course, this executive order isn't the be-all-end-all. We must do more to reignite competition. That starts with our agencies aggressively enforcing the laws that are already on the books against corporate monopolies. And Congress needs to pass new legislation to revitalize the rules of the road and strengthen those federal agencies.

So I'll keep pushing. But we've got room to fight for this now because the American people elected a government to be on the side of working people. I'm deeply grateful for everything you've done to elect Democrats up and down the ballot — and I'm very glad to be in this fight by your side.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth
