I wanted to send a quick note on today's astrology, as October's Mercury retrograde looks to be substantial in its impact. Because the beginning of Mercury's pre-retrograde shadow period was so specifically tied into the Mars/Saturn square, and because it stations retrograde in an opposition to Uranus, then stations direct in a square to Saturn, this Mercury retrograde is acting like a megaphone for both the issues that take a tremendous amount of focus to resolve, and the issues that come roaring out-of-the blue that we might not be prepared for but need to respond to nonetheless. Mercury officially stations retrograde at 6:05 pm PT on October 13th. Already bound to a bumpy course (Mercury has been in an opposition to Uranus, planet of shocking twists and turns, for the first half of October), the unprecedented events will keep rolling in. With an infamous election cycle here in the US, this Mercury retrograde is sure to go down in the books as one of the most telling of the planet's impact. It is oddly reminiscent of the Mercury retrograde of November 2000, when every news outlet declared victory for one candidate only to have to retract the statement, much to Mercury's amusement. As officials scrambled to figure out if Gore or Bush had won, Mercury was stationing direct at 29° of Libra, exactly as it will this year (at 26° of Libra). In 2000, the country had to wait another 36 days for an official answer as to who would be president. By that time, Mercury had cleared its post-shadow phase. On October 18th, Mercury opposes Uranus again. This is the second of three oppositions between the planet of communication and the queen of chaos; mid-October can't be counted on for anything but reversals and last minute shifts. Stay flexible. The first opposition between these two was on October 7th, 4 days after the sitting president tested positive for COVID and subsequently cancelled the 2nd presidential debate. Mercury then stations direct on November 3rd, while in a square to Saturn. Information, data, and results will be slow to reveal themselves. This is no time to make an announcement in a rush as there is probably much more to the story than we know. Mercury will remain in this gridlock with Saturn before and after it stations direct for the better part of a week, making the last days of October and the first days of November full of sticking points. In the midst of all of that, there is a Full Moon in Taurus on October 31st that is conjunct Uranus, just to invoke a little more turbulence. This Mercury retrograde is urging us to not get sidetracked by the drama and chaos regularly used as agents of control by dictators and the cowards that serve them. As it begins, take a moment to secure the things you can; resist buying the things you don't need right now; and commit to being excruciatingly thorough in your communications and dogged in your approach to dealing with upsets that are sure to come.
