Danielle,

The coronavirus crisis is exposing so many of the ways our country doesn't work for working people — and one of the biggest is health care.

Right now, millions of people are losing their jobs, having their hours cut, and staring into economic uncertainty.

But Donald Trump and Mike Pence have made it clear — even during this pandemic, Americans without health insurance are on their own. They refuse to reopen HealthCare.gov to let people sign up for coverage and get financial assistance to help pay for it.

States like Massachusetts have opened special enrollment periods for uninsured Americans to sign up for health care. But that won't help everyone who needs help across the country.

This is just another example of why we need Medicare For All. It shouldn't matter whether or not someone has a job, or whether or not there's a pandemic — health care is a basic human right, and we fight for basic human rights.

But right now, the Trump administration needs to stop playing politics and start saving lives. Add your name if you agree: Trump needs to reopen HealthCare.gov during this coronavirus crisis and allow millions of people to get access to health care.

At a recent press briefing, Mike Pence got asked a simple question: What can people do now to get health insurance if they don't have it?

He put on his best calm, "nothing to see here" voice — and completely dodged the question. He told reporters not to worry — health insurance companies have agreed to waive some people's copays.

But what about the millions of Americans who have no insurance or are losing their insurance because they're losing their jobs? What kind of help are they going to get to cover their health care costs in the middle of a health care crisis?

Now, here's some good news, Danielle: A bunch of states that run their own health insurance marketplaces are letting people sign up right now. These states are California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington state.

According to our latest records, you live in one of these states. If you know someone in these states who needs health insurance, please let them know that they can go check out their options. Many people also qualify for coverage under Medicaid, which is available year-round.

But millions more need help — and the Trump administration is standing in the way of them getting the coverage and care that they need.

Across the country right now, people are stepping up to save lives — by staying home, by working around the clock in hospitals, by keeping people fed, and more. It's time for the federal government to step up and ensure everyone is covered.

The Trump administration is refusing to take a simple action that would help a whole lot of people get health insurance. And make no mistake, Danielle: Lives are on the line.

Our government needs to reopen HealthCare.gov and and treat this crisis like the emergency it is. Sign on if you agree: The Trump administration needs to reopen HealthCare.gov and let people sign up for health insurance right now.

Stay safe, and thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth
