A handful of extremists want to shut down the government to help out Donald Trump’s chances, and we need to call it out.

Republicans tout how they fight for the everyman. But that isn't really true — at all.

You know, I'd like to think that politicians run for office to lead the government and help people. But the GOP doesn't seem to be interested in that. They tout how they fight for the everyman. But that isn't really true — at all.

As we continue to plummet towards the October 1 deadline to pass a spending bill, Kevin McCarthy and his House Republicans called it a week last week and went home rather than debating this bill and working to avoid a government shutdown.

A handful of extremists are not budging on their demands for spending cuts and unrealistic conservative policies — because they believe that if they can cause a shutdown and impose more pain on the American people and more chaos in Washington, it will increase Donald Trump's chances of winning re-election. And Kevin McCarthy's failure to lead is enabling this.

It's really dangerous — and we need to call it out.

In the short-term, I'm going to do everything in my power to urge the House to get serious, do their jobs, and avoid a shutdown. And at the same time, I'm pushing for the critical funding that working families need in this spending bill — like for childcare.

And in the long-term, I am going to fight back with everything I've got to stop this MAGA extremism from hurting the American people — and I'm going to keep laying out big, bold plans that actually lift up working families and protect our values. But if Republicans gain more power, they'd have more free reign to pass their extremist agenda and block progress on the plans this movement is fighting for.

If you're able to, can you pitch in $28 or anything you can today to power this fight and fund my re-election campaign? A contribution will power our movement to make our government actually work for working people, and will show that our movement for big, structural change is stronger than their movement for extremist, harmful regression.
