Danielle, Once in a while, Republican leaders come right out and say what they're really thinking. For months, they've claimed that they're concerned about costs going up for working families — even though they haven't lifted a finger to pass any policies that would help anyone make ends meet. But last week, Republican Senator Rick Scott let the cat out of the bag. He's the guy in charge of taking back the Senate for the GOP, and he said that inflation is a "gold mine" for their campaigns. So of course he doesn't want to help families. He just wants a misleading political talking point against Democrats — even though we're the ones who are actually working on bringing down expenses like child care that are hitting families' pocketbooks. Republicans want to see our economy fail, no matter how many working people have to pay the price, if it means they can sling any more mud against Democrats. So we've got to beat them. Please chip in if you can to help power our work, support our re-election campaign, and help elect Democrats up and down the ballot. Earlier this year, Mitch McConnell said he was "100%" focused on stopping President Biden. Just like how in 2010, he said his number-one goal was to stop President Obama from winning a second-term (nice try, Mitch, but the American people had other ideas). He and Rick Scott will keep focusing on cozying up to powerful interests who can write big checks — all so they can get the wealthy and well-connected in the driver's seat in Washington. But Democrats are laser-focused on getting help to struggling families. - The Build Back Better Act will reduce key expenses — like child care, prescription drugs, housing, home- and community- based care, and more — that have skyrocketed and gobbled up families' budgets for decades. Not a single Republican voted for it in the House, and Democrats are going to have to pass it all by ourselves in the Senate too.
- Just last week, experts at ratings agencies agreed that the plan won't drive inflation. The bill will create millions of good-paying jobs and reduce prices in the long run.
- President Biden just asked the FTC to investigate Big Oil for price-gouging — because they've been padding up their profits by jacking up prices at the pump even while their fuel costs go down.
We need our government to be on the side of working families — and that means we need to keep electing Democrats. Can you pitch in $15 today to support our re-election campaign, help protect our razor-thin Senate and House majorities, and boost Democrats up and down the ballot? Thanks for being a part of this, Elizabeth |
