Danielle,
Texas has a special place in my heart.
It's where I got my second chance at college, for $50 a semester at the University of Houston (go Cougars!). It's where my Aunt Bee rescued me by moving to help with child care. It's where I started teaching Sunday school and bankruptcy law, and it's where I started studying how our economy lays traps for working people.
In Texas, I saw what can happen when a person has a fighting chance to build something real. I saw how we can lift each other up. And I saw what we're up against: a system where the rules are tilted to benefit the wealthy and well-connected.
We can rewrite those rules and give everyone the opportunity to thrive — but first, we need to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2020. And Texas is going to be a big part of that.
Today, I'm asking if you can help support three terrific Democratic U.S. House candidates who can flip three seats in Texas and expand our House majority.
Candace Valenzuela (Texas 24th District) and Mike Siegel (Texas 10th) have primary run-off elections next Tuesday. Julie Oliver (Texas 25th) is already on the ballot for November, and she needs to make investments right now to beat her GOP opponent.
I'm so proud to endorse these three strong fighters.
As an educator and former school board leader, Candace Valenzuela knows first-hand the struggles that working families face. I know she'll be an unwavering force in Congress that will fight tirelessly for them both at home and in Washington.
Mike Siegel is a civil rights lawyer and a former public school teacher. He has been on the right side of critical fights for our children, our planet, and for civil rights and social justice. And we need his fighting spirit in Washington.
Julie Oliver grew up poor, and she was homeless and pregnant at 17. She took care of her family and put herself through college and law school with the help of Medicaid and Pell Grants. She knows deeply the struggles families face, and I know she'll fight like hell for Texas in Congress.
Working people need these three champions in Congress. And we can help make sure they win — but only if we pitch in however we can.
