Have you heard about Jeff Bezos’s latest stunt?

Danielle,

Ultra-millionaires and billionaires like Jeff Bezos make it clear every single day how much a wealth tax could do for the future of our country.

Bezos's latest stunt? His brand-new, 417-foot superyacht is too massive to pass underneath a historic Dutch bridge, so it looks like they're going to have to dismantle the bridge at his bidding.

That's a doozy of a sentence, Danielle. 417-foot superyachts? Dutch bridges? I totally get that Jeff Bezos can do whatever he wants with his money. But using his enormous wealth in such gaudy ways after years of systematically paying less than his fair share in taxes — he paid literally nothing in federal income taxes in 2007 and 2011 — is a blatant gut punch to the tens of millions of Americans who pay what they owe while struggling to make ends meet.

Here's the way I see it: If someone can afford a yacht big enough that it calls for tearing down a bridge, that someone can also afford to pay his fair share of taxes to invest in things like building bridges, repairing roads, and ensuring universal child care. No questions asked.

Add your name if you agree it's time for a wealth tax that makes ultra-millionaires and billionaires like Jeff Bezos finally pay their fair share.

Jeff Bezos isn't the only ultra-wealthy person to recently indulge in an oversized boat — in fact, superyacht sales jumped by 77 percent last year.

Contrast that number with the 84 percent of parents who said in a September 2021 survey that they're overwhelmed by the cost of child care. I don't think we need much more proof that our economy has worked better and better for the rich and powerful, and worse and worse for everyone else.

A wealth tax is powerfully important in our fight to level the playing field. Our plan calls for a two-cent-per-dollar tax on people with a net worth above $50 million, and just a few cents more for the billionaires. That small tax would generate revenue totaling at least $3 trillion, funds that can go such a long way in dismantling the systemic opportunity gaps that have long persisted in this country.

These ultra-millionaires and billionaires could stand to spare a few cents and give everyone else a chance. Add your name to support our plan for a wealth tax, and help build the grassroots support that we'll need from across the country to pass it in Washington.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth
