My thoughts on tonight's vote

We got here because Republicans are afraid. They are afraid of accountability. And they are afraid of voters.

Danielle,

Today, Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republican minority used the filibuster to block the For The People Act and keep Congress from protecting our democracy.

So how did we get here?

We got here because Republicans are afraid. They are afraid of accountability. And they are afraid of voters.

The GOP lost the House, they lost the Senate, and they lost the White House. So their response has been to propose nearly 400 laws across this nation to keep American citizens — American citizens who might vote for Democrats — to keep them from voting.

Republicans are afraid of losing power, and they are willing to crush our democracy to protect their power. So what are we going to do?

We could hang back. We could pause, we could turn the other way while Republicans do this.

Or we could fight back. Me? I'm fighting back.

We fight back by making a new plan and overturning Republican efforts to strip away the vote. We fight back by protecting our democracy. We fight back by ending the filibuster and getting rid of Mitch McConnell's veto on widely popular policies — once and for all.

Now look, I get it. We've just had a tough loss, but that doesn't mean that we give up. It means we double down.

I hope you'll stay in this fight by my side.
