Here's what lobbyists know about me, and here's why I'm asking for your support.

Danielle, I've picked up a lot of lessons from my friend, mentor, and former law professor Elizabeth Warren. Here's one: in politics, nobody gets elected all by themselves. I was only able to flip a Republican-held House seat — and go on to win my re-election campaigns — because of thousands of supporters chipping in $10 or $20 at a time. I was only able to compete against millions of dollars in GOP super PAC spending because so many people pitched in from the grassroots level. But lobbyists know something else about me. When I first got to Congress in 2019, one of them said to me, "oh, you're one of those." An attractive single-woman, I wondered? No, he meant one of the new members who was breaking with tradition and rejecting corporate PAC money. After meeting that guy, I decided not to take lobbyist money either. I'm one of less than a dozen House members who has made that decision. In fact, I'm the only person in this California Senate race who can say they don't take money from corporate PACs, federal lobbyists, or executives from Big Oil, Big Pharma, or Wall Street Banks. Elizabeth doesn't either — and we're both so grateful for grassroots support. Washington needs change. We can deliver that by electing leaders who aren't beholden to corporate special interests.
