Fwd: We must remove Mitch McConnell's veto power

Yesterday, tens of thousands of people added their names and joined Elizabeth to support ending the filibuster -- will you join them?
Danielle,

Yesterday, tens of thousands of people added their names and joined Elizabeth to support ending the filibuster — will you join them?

Add your name now if you agree with Elizabeth: It's time to end the filibuster so we can make big, structural change.

The filibuster has given Mitch McConnell and the GOP veto power over broadly popular policies the American people want to see passed.

Protecting the right to vote. Rooting corruption out of Washington. Commonsense gun safety reform. Raising the minimum wage for the first time in over a decade.

Democrats should not be held hostage by Mitch McConnell and blocked from helping struggling families. Add your name if you agree: It is time to get rid of the filibuster.

Thanks,

Team Warren

Danielle,

It's hard to imagine two-thirds of Americans agreeing on much of anything. But two-thirds of Americans support raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

It's a broadly popular, badly needed policy to help families who are struggling through this pandemic and lift people out of poverty.

That's why President Biden included this plan in his COVID relief package. That's why the House of Representatives put it in their bill, too. That's why the Senate needs to take action.

But right now, raising the minimum wage is getting bogged down in the Senate. Why? Because of the filibuster — a procedural loophole that lets an extreme minority of senators block the majority from passing bills that have the broad support of the American people.

Understand this: The filibuster is giving a veto to Mitch McConnell. A veto to the gun industry. A veto to the oil industry. For generations, racist senators took advantage of the filibuster to block anti-lynching laws and civil rights bills. And it's still blocking progress today.

Add your name if you agree, Danielle: It's long past time to get rid of the filibuster. We must remove Mitch McConnell's veto power over broadly popular policies the American people want to see passed.

Unless we get rid of the filibuster, the Republican Senate minority will be able to keep using their favorite word — "no" — to block so many things we need to get done. "No" to protecting the right to vote. "No" to rooting corruption out of Washington. "No" to commonsense gun safety reform. "No" to raising the minimum wage for the first time in over a decade.

Raising the minimum wage would increase income for about thirty million and lift nearly a million families out of poverty. It would help boost income for people of color, who make up a disproportionate share of low-wage earners. It would give workers more money in their pockets to put back into the economy — lifting all boats. It would help our country build back better, stronger, and more resilient.

The American people elected a Democratic House majority, a Democratic Senate majority, and a Democratic president with a mandate to take bold action. Now, we need to deliver results — and that means getting rid of the filibuster.

Danielle, let's fight side by side on this one. Add your name if you agree that it's time to end the filibuster so we can make big, structural change.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth

Danielle, add your name if you agree: Congress must raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

We're long past overdue for an increase in the federal minimum wage, and the pandemic has only accelerated the crisis. Add your name if you agree: Congress must raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Danielle,

It's been more than a decade since the federal minimum wage has increased, even when living costs have skyrocketed.

Now working families — especially workers of color — are battling a global pandemic with barely enough to get by.

Danielle, we're long past overdue for an increase in the federal minimum wage, and the pandemic has only accelerated the crisis. Add your name if you agree: Congress must raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Two-thirds of Americans support raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. So why hasn't it budged?

Well Danielle, follow the money.

Take Walmart and McDonald's — these huge corporations are among the top employers of Medicaid and food stamp beneficiaries.

That means as their executives are making huge profits, those profits don't trickle down to the workers keeping those businesses running — and the government is left to help workers stay afloat.

It's corporate welfare.

Raising the minimum wage would...
  1. Increase income for about thirty million and lift nearly a million families out of poverty.
  2. Help boost income for people of color, who make up a disproportionate share of low-wage earners.
  3. Give workers more money in their pockets to put back into the economy — lifting all boats.
Here's the bottom line: Big business is not hurting during this pandemic. They're doing just fine. Working families are on the brink — and have been struggling long before the pandemic.

We have a chance to include a minimum wage increase in a COVID relief package, which will help our country build back better, stronger, and more resilient. It's time to make it happen.

Add your name if you agree: Congress must raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth
