Danielle, Imagine if the tobacco companies got to decide which cigarettes the FDA was allowed to inspect. Or if Wall Street firms could tell the SEC which trades it could investigate. You’d call that a pretty obvious conflict of interest. Right? So why are we letting the biggest AI companies in the world help decide how they should be regulated? AI is moving too fast for the government to simply hope Big Tech will do the right thing. So the Trump administration, at first, was developing a process to test powerful AI systems for serious security risks. It was kind of a no-brainer if you ask me: before these systems are widely deployed, experts should have a chance to find out whether they could be used to attack our banks, power grid, hospitals, or other critical infrastructure. Then the CEOs got involved. Executives from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic reportedly objected to parts of the process. And Trump’s buddies Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk also raised concerns. And the rules changed. What had been considered a “requirement” is now more of a suggestion. The review process was shortened, and the details still being worked out are being handled behind closed doors. The American people have no oversight or say. The companies that are supposed to be regulated are getting a say in the rules meant to regulate them. And I, for one, am not going to sit back and watch it happen. I’m demanding that the top officials in Trump’s White House release every communication between these companies and the administration about the AI policy. We need to know about their secret AI framework and how it impacts the public. The American people deserve strong guardrails set by democratically elected officials, not a toothless framework shaped in secret by a handful of billionaires. I’m going to keep pushing until we know what happened and the American people can see how these decisions are being made. Thanks for being a part of this, Elizabeth Warren
Elizabeth Warren has called for an immediate pause on advanced AI development so that Congress can put proper guardrails and regulations in place to prevent serious harm. She has also introduced policies to tax AI companies to prevent an economic collapse, and to make AI companies pay for their own data center usage that is jacking up utility prices. If you’re able, pitch in to power this work.
