I wanted to share some news with you directly: I teamed up with my daughter Amelia to write a book called The New Middle Class — and I’d love to tell you all about it.

This is a guide for anyone who is trying to figure out how to not just survive — but really thrive — in our rigged economy. That’s right: rigged.

Look, the rules we’ve been told to follow — work hard, buy a home, save a little each month to build a secure middle-class life — are not working. Over the last few decades, the rich and powerful have twisted our economy to work for them and our government has been more than happy to enable it.

Housing, college, and health care costs have all exploded. Jobs are less predictable. And retirement feels further away than ever. The old rules of living and budgeting no longer apply.

Through writing The New Middle Class, we wanted to offer an easy-to-understand guide with tools and strategies for readers to build an actually sustainable American dream. Think of it like a modern day follow-up to our books The Two-Income Trap and All Your Worth: The Ultimate Lifetime Money Plan.

Before ever becoming a senator, I spent my career studying why families go broke and fighting to rebuild the middle class.

After Wall Street crashed our economy in 2008, I fought to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to protect people from getting scammed by big banks and corporations.
