Bribery in plain sight?

I'm introducing legislation that would ban companies and governments from donating to the presidential libraries of sitting presidents.

Danielle,

Donald Trump's latest scheme reeks of corruption.

He has accepted over $60 million in donations from companies like Paramount, Disney, Meta, and X — and a $400,000,000 luxury jet from Qatar — for his presidential library. And all of this is perfectly legal.

Concerned citizens, ethics experts, and lawmakers in Congress are rightfully asking: is this bribery in plain sight? That's why today I'm introducing legislation that would ban companies and governments from donating to the presidential libraries of sitting presidents.

If you agree that companies and foreign governments should not be able to make contributions to a president's future library during their term — potentially seeking favorable treatment — add your name to be a grassroots co-sponsor of my legislation.

ADD YOUR NAME

U.S. presidents have been setting up libraries for themselves since the 1930s to honor their legacies once they're out of office and to let the public learn about what they did. But unlike donations to presidential campaigns or inaugural committees, there are virtually no restrictions on donations to presidential libraries.

That means while he's in office, Trump — or any president — can solicit unlimited, undisclosed donations from anyone. Foreign nationals, lobbyists, people seeking presidential pardons, and corporations with business before the federal government.

Past presidents have appeared to have abused this power. But Trump has pushed the boundaries of these gifts by accepting tens of millions of dollars in donations.

A new investigation from my office found donations from these companies and entities — who might be seeking special favors with Trump:

  • Disney/ABC News donated $15 million. In December 2024, ABC News settled a defamation lawsuit with Donald Trump by agreeing to pay $15 million toward his presidential library.
  • Meta/Facebook donated $22 million. Following the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, Meta shut down President Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts for nearly two years. Since Trump's reelection, Meta has cozied up to his administration — and earlier this year settled a lawsuit brought by President Trump for $25 million, with $22 million going toward a fund for his presidential library.
  • Paramount donated $16 million. Last year, President Trump sued Paramount over the editing of an interview on CBS's 60 Minutes, a suit that experts called "baseless." Just weeks ago, Paramount settled for $16 million, with the money funneling straight into Trump's future library. It just so happens that Paramount is currently vying for the administration to approve its proposed multi-million dollar merger with Skydance.
  • The government of Qatar donated a $400 million jet. After using it as Air Force One and retrofitting it at taxpayers' expense, Trump reportedly plans to transfer the jet to his presidential library foundation.

The list can go on. If you believe that the government should work for the people, not whichever giant company or foreign government can dump the most money into the president's future library, please add your name today to signal you support this legislation.

Thanks for being a part of this,

Elizabeth

In the midterms, and beyond

Blaming Trump for all of our problems is not going to put the fire out.

Danielle, it's important to remember that Trump is not the cause of everything that's broken in America.

Don't get me wrong, he has certainly poured gasoline on the fire. But blaming Trump for all of our problems is not going to put the fire out.

There are systemic issues that led to someone like him getting elected in the first place. He is the worst symptom of a corrupt system that rewards the rich and powerful at the expense of everyone else.

This system has plagued us for years. It's a system where Reagan's trickle-down experiment failed — and is still failing — America's middle class.

A system that has made it harder and harder to start and join a union.

A system that says that companies donating exorbitant amounts of money to a political campaign is a form of "free speech."

A system where the government bailed out banks rather than homeowners after the 2008 financial crisis.

A system that allows a family to go bankrupt because they dared to receive medical care.

A system that allows minority rule in our government because of a racist and archaic filibuster rule.

Look, we must call out and tend to the root causes of the deep problems in our economy, our government, and our democracy — the problems that existed way before Donald Trump rode down that elevator in 2015.

That's what I'm focused on while we also fight back against the harms the Trump administration brings us over the next four years.

The Democratic party must, must, must fight back with defiant action instead of just pushing back with great reluctance — while also connecting the dots between today's crises, yesterday's systemic causes, and the solutions we're championing.

It's going to take a lot of work to untangle this system — with political leaders fighting for the bold solutions and a strong grassroots movement calling for a better way forward. That's why it's so important for you to stay in this fight, Danielle.

If Democrats can show the American people what it means for a government to actually work for working people — and draw contrasts between that and what the Trump Administration is actually doing — then we can lay a strong foundation for a new way forward in the midterms and beyond.

If you're on board with this roadmap, then please pitch in $100 or anything you can to support our work ahead. I'm going to do everything I can in the Senate to fight back against the Trump administration and advocate for the Democratic party to focus on the bold solutions necessary to fixing our systemic challenges. Your support is what makes this possible.

Danielle —

Elizabeth Warren said I could reach out, because this U.S. Senate race in Georgia isn't just another election.

It's the one race MAGA is banking on.

See, as the only Democratic Senator up for re-election in a state Trump won, I am, quite literally, their #1 target.

You know the stakes. And you know your support is crucial. If you are ready to make a donation today, please split a donation between my campaign and Elizabeth Warren today.

Otherwise, I hope you'll give me a minute or two to explain why your support is so important.

They're going to come after me with every dirty trick in the book and will spare no expense to defeat me.

That means we need to build the largest statewide campaign Georgia has ever seen.

That means more rallies. More organizers. More outreach — and early outreach — to voters in every corner of the state.

All of that takes resources. And it's why donations from supporters like you are so important to our campaign.

The road ahead won't be easy. But I know how to win tough fights. I've done it before.

I can't do it alone, which is why I'm asking:

Please, consider splitting a contribution between my re-election and Elizabeth Warren. Every donation counts in a race as close as this one will be.

Thanks for all you do to support our campaign.

As always,

Jon

Danielle —

The Republicans in Congress who voted for this historically bad, deeply dangerous bill should be ashamed of themselves — but we know they won't be.

The hundreds of millions of Americans who will be worse off because of this awful bill should hold those Republicans accountable — but they only will if you make sure they know who did these things:

Republicans in Congress are taking health care away completely from millions of people, and making it more expensive for tens of millions more.

Republicans in Congress are transferring wealth from the working class and middle class to billionaires and big corporations.

Republicans in Congress are spending tens of billions of dollars to expand the unconstitutional kidnapping, trafficking, and confinement of people who've committed no crime.

Republicans in Congress are making sure that more people who are barely hanging on financially finally go broke, that more hungry children have even less to eat, and that sick people pay more to get care — or if they can't, they just get sicker and die.

America doesn't have to be this way — and it's important to remember on days like today that most Americans don't even want America to be this way:

  • Less than 200 days into his second term, a clear majority of Americans disapprove of what Trump is doing — the only president who has ever been less popular is Donald Trump in his first term.
  • The 50 senators who voted against this bill represent tens of millions more Americans than the 50 who voted for it.
  • The razor-thin majority that lets Republicans control the House was decided by a little more than 7,000 votes scattered across three districts in Iowa, Colorado, and Pennsylvania. That's certainly no mandate — and when asked today a clear majority of Americans disapprove of them, too.

The majority of Americans don't want this. And in less than 500 days a majority of Americans will be able to speak up and loudly reject Republicans in Congress in the midterm elections.

I promise you: I am going to work every day to make sure the American people know who did this and hold them accountable.

Today is a bad day for America, but a good day to renew that promise to yourself: stay in this fight.

In solidarity,
Elizabeth Warren
