Danielle, Four years ago this week, the Trump-stacked Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The anti-choice movement had spent decades working toward that moment. But taking away the constitutional right to abortion was never the end of the story — it was the beginning. Since then, abortion bans have swept across the country. Tens of millions of people have lost access to care. Patients have died after being denied an abortion. Anti-choice extremists have targeted medication abortion, threatened contraception, and looked for new ways to put politicians between patients and their doctors. Now they're at it again. On Mother's Day, the Trump administration quietly launched a website called Moms dot gov (I’m not linking here so people don’t accidentally go to this misleading and horrific website) — presenting it as a “resource” to support the health and well-being of new and expecting mothers. What they didn't advertise is what the site is actually for: Directing pregnant women and their loved ones to unregulated and often nonmedical crisis pregnancy centers. AKA: Anti-abortion facilities. Let me explain what that means: Despite the name, crisis pregnancy centers are not medical clinics. Many are not staffed by licensed medical professionals. They are not bound by HIPAA privacy protections. They have no legal obligation to provide medically accurate information — and many don't. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has made its position clear: Crisis pregnancy centers exist to discourage people from accessing reproductive health care, including abortion and contraception. So, the Trump administration is using taxpayer dollars to prop up a website that pushes pregnant women towards non-medical anti-abortion centers — and also collects data on them. This is not a maternal health resource. It's an anti-abortion operation wrapped in the seal of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. So I’m calling this out — and demanding answers from the Trump administration on this sham of a website. We want to know who built this website and whether medical experts were consulted. And we are demanding that the administration remove these links to the pregnancy centers immediately. The Republican plan is to sneak through anti-abortion resources and backdoor abortion bans because they know Americans don’t support their extreme agenda. Democrats are fighting back. With the support of this movement, we will challenge every attack. We will expose every piece of disinformation. We will fight every effort to take away our rights and our freedom to make our own health care decisions. Thanks for being a part of this, Elizabeth |
